Indian hackers deface Multan government website

MULTAN: The Multan district government website was defaced by Indian hackers on Sunday. The hackers had erased all official data on the website and posted anti-Pakistan and anti-government slogans on the homepage.

Indian national songs, supposedly sung at a concert, were being played as background music on the website.

The website, www.multan.gov.pk, is the Multan government's official website and contains important data vis a vis the district.

A group named 'Indishell' claimed hacking the website, with its name prominently mentioned on the homepage, along with a message saying 'We have an EYE on you', that is strategically placed under cat eyes with pupils donned as the Indian flag.

When District Coordination Officer Multan, Zahid Zaman, was contacted to get a statement on this incident, he denied being DCO Multan, despite receiving the call on the official number.

The website had information including maps, buildings, history, culture of Multan along with a list of ongoing developmental projects in the district. Regarding the ongoing projects, the site has information on the tenders about the developmental projects in Multan.

Talking to The paksarzameen.tk, Ijaz ul haq, Member All Pakistan Newspaper Cyber Society and editor Multan Updates, condemned the step, saying it would create problems for citizens and that the district government was doing nothing to deal with this issue.

"It is the duty of the district government to ensure that such informative and helpful websites are secured. "

Champions League: Drama ends with Chelsea triumph

MUNICH: 

Didier Drogba was an ecstatic man as Chelsea won a historic first Champions League crown to shatter Bayern Munich's dreams of winning the title at their home stadium.

Drogba stepped up to rifle home the decisive penalty as Chelsea clinched a 4-3 shoot-out victory after 120 minutes of nerve-shredding drama in front of a partisan crowd at Bayern's Allianz Arena.

Drogba had also rescued Chelsea with an 88th-minute equaliser to cancel out what had looked like a winning goal from Thomas Mueller for Bayern as 90 minutes finished with the sides locked at 1-1.

Drogba's winning spot-kick was a fairytale ending for the 34-year-old Ivorian striker, who had been sent off in the final minutes of Chelsea's Champions League final defeat in Moscow four years ago.

"In Moscow it was very difficult, very painful for the players, for the club, for the fans, and we managed to change it and again it was an amazing game, a crazy game," said Drogba. "I wanted to make Chelsea smile compared to the other time where we were all down and some were crying. So I'm happy we made them smile."

It was an agonising defeat for Bayern, who saw Bastian Schweinsteiger miss with their final kick to give Drogba the opportunity to cement his place in the pantheon of Chelsea legends.

Chelsea goal-keeper Petr Cech was the club's other hero on the night, saving from Oliv to get his team back into the shoot-out after Juan Mata had missed the Premier League side's opening effort.

Cech had earlier saved a Bayern penalty from Arjen Robben in the first period of extra time as the English side defied the odds once more.

The win capped a rollercoaster season for Chelsea, whose campaign has been transformed since Roberto Di Matteo was appointed as interim manager in March following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas.

Di Matteo has guided the club to a Champions League and FA Cup double in the space of a fortnight and is now favourite to land the job on a full-time basis.

"Football and life is sometimes unpredictable and crazy, and I don't think anybody could have predicted what's happened in the last few months of this season," said Di Matteo.

"We've had a very difficult season and to finish off like this is an incredible achievement by this team."

But the loss left Bayern shattered as their dream of lifting their fifth European title ended in agony.

"We missed too many chances," admitted Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes. "We played well overall and had the majority of possession. "But we didn't know how to exploit our many opportunities and you have to use them or you will be punished."

"The players worked hard for many years. Four years ago they had a painful experience, but now they're on the other side. It's difficult to win, and you have to take your chance when it comes."

"We must blame ourselves. If you score in the 83rd minute you should keep this result. Then you have a penalty in extra-time, and you miss. Chelsea was a lucky team, they put on a real fight."

Azlan Shah Cup: Greenshirts getting used to the blues

KARACHI: Pakistan hockey team got first taste of the blue Astroturf as it prepared for the opening match of the Azlan Shah Cup and coach Khwaja Junaid said that the players will 'obviously' need time to adapt to the faster and bouncier surface as he gave his initial assessment.

The Greenshirts, currently in Ipoh, Malaysia for the tournament that starts on May 24, held an extensive training session for more than two hours at the blue turf.

Getting a command over the new surface is the big question in field hockey circle these days as it will also be used in this year's London Olympics.

While world champions Australia and India have criticised the surface, three-time Olympic gold medallists Pakistan gave a positive response on the nature of the turf.

"Players looked a bit uncomfortable but not much," Junaid told The Pak Sar Zameen from Ipoh. "Apart from being more fast and bouncy, there was some vision problem as well. We're used to playing on the green turf with a white ball but now it's like a blue base with yellow ball. So definitely the players felt the change.

"The other thing is that on a speedy hit, there's more bounce to the ball which is creating problems in stopping it. But there's no major difference and I'm a bit satisfied since we heard a lot of bad things about it and now that we've experienced it ourselves, it's alright."

'More practice needed badly'

However, Junaid, who was a part of the 1984 Los Angeles Games gold-medal winning team, insisted that the team needs a lot of practice to get used to the surface.

"We don't have major complaints but we need a lot of practice on it. It's like replacing an old engine with a super-charged one and you need practice to get control of it.

However, Junaid hoped the team will adapt to the change before the London Games.

"The players showed a positive attitude today and did not look too affected in training. By getting more practice they will be better prepared for the Olympics."

Pakistan are scheduled to meet Argentina in their opening game on May 24.

Increase MNAs salaries, perks: Kundi

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi has claimed that the country's legislators are paid less than their counterparts in India, Bangladesh and other South Asian states.

Pushing for more perks and privileges for MNAs, he said that their basic salary and expenses were insufficient and were barely enough to maximise their capacity as lawmakers of the country.

"They should be given independent offices with necessary administrative staff to discharge their responsibilities as lawmakers if you want to build their capacity," he said.

About the competence of lawmakers from Fata, the deputy speaker said that all of them participated in the legislation process in the assembly.

"For building the capacity of MNAs, an increase in monthly salary and allowances will be helpful," Kundi stressed.

Kundi admitted that packs of budget-related documents presented to MNAs by the finance ministry every year during the budget session are not properly utilised by legislators.

He also said that annual reports by the Auditor General of Pakistan were submitted to the National Assembly every year but there was never any debate on them. "I don't know" was his reply when asked why audit reports were not debated in the National Assembly. "I think that audit reports should be discussed in the National Assembly to ensure accountability of all those who are ruling the country in one way or another," he remarked.

The constitution requires the auditor general to lay his reports before parliament which, he said, is being implemented. He added however, that for the first time a report prepared by the National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee was debated in the House.
