Lahore: Police arrest 5 bookies Posted: <p> </p><p>According to police, on a tip-off raided a house and arrested bookies Noman, Asim, Qasim Ahsan and Haider Ali who were gambling on the cricket match from a long time.<br /> </p><p>Police recovered a mini telephone exchange, computers, LCDs and cash from their possession.<br /> </p><p>Police have registered a case and started investigation.<br /> </p> |
N Waziristan: 4 killed, several injured in drone attack Posted: <p> </p><p>The unmanned aircraft fired two missiles on a house in Miranshah, killing four people and wounding several.</p><p> </p><p>"The drone fired two missiles on a house in the Tabai area near Miranshah," the main town in North Waziristan, a security official said, adding four people were killed. A local administration official and another intelligence official confirmed the early morning strike and casualties.</p><p> </p><p>It was the first drone strike after Chicago conference.<br /> </p> |

AT announces strike in Sindh today Posted: <p> </p><p>According to Sindh’s nationalist party’s leader Ayaz Palijo, the AT took out a rally on Tuesday to raise its voice against the possible partition of Sindh and Lyari operation. BIEK, Dow and Karachi Universities postpone papers Posted: <p> </p><p>Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), Karachi University and Dow University has announced to postpone the scheduled papers going to be held on Wednesday.</p><p> </p><p>According to spokesperson of BIEK the postponed paper would now be held on May 30.</p><p> </p><p>On the other hand, CM House’s spokesperson said that all the educational institutions would remain open on Wednesday. <br /> </p> |

US Senate body approves to cut aid to Pakistan Posted: <p> </p><p>By voice vote Tuesday, a Senate Appropriations subcommittee approved the overall bill totaling $52.1 billion. That is $2.6 billion less than what President Barack Obama requested and $1.2 billion below current spending.</p><p> </p><p>Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy cited the strained US relations with Pakistan for reducing aid and imposing restrictions on $1 billion in assistance. </p><p> </p><p>The panel also cut $5 million from the $250 million in economic assistance for Egypt. Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said it equaled the amount the US spent to get American non-government workers out earlier this year.<br /> </p> |

PM contempt case: Govt to file appeal on Thursday Posted: <p><br />According to sources, about 150 objections would be raised against the Supreme Court verdict. The poetry of Justice Asif Saeed Khosa would also be criticized from literary point of view.</p><p><br />The sources also said that the Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani would consult his legal advisors during a meeting in this regard. <br /> </p><p>Gilani was summoned before the Supreme Court on Jan 19 for failing to take steps to re-open money-laundering proceedings against President Asif Ali Zardari. He was indicted for contempt of court on Feb 13.</p><p> </p><p>The civilian-judicial confrontation stems from thousands of cases thrown out in 2007 under an amnesty ordered by former military president Pervez Musharraf, which paved the way for a return to civilian rule.</p><p> </p><p> Zardari was the decree’s most prominent beneficiary. He became the main target of the court when it voided the measure in 2009 and ordered the government to ask Swiss authorities to restart legal action against him.</p><p> </p><p>The cases date back to the 1990s, when Zardari had multiple cases of corruption lodged against him, including accusations of money laundering using Swiss accounts. He says all the cases are false and politically motivated.</p><p> </p><p>Gilani and his advisers have defied the court, citing the president’s constitutional immunity as head of state. The prime minister appealed the court’s decision to charge him with contempt, but that appeal was dismissed in February.</p><p> </p> |
