Iguazu Falls named among new seven wonders Posted: <p> </p><p>Argentina s Iguazu Falls was named as one of the world s new seven wonders after being chosen a winner by an international poll. </p><p> </p><p>The President of the New7Wonders organization, Bernard Weber, unveiled a placard designating the falls as one of the new seven wonders at an event at the falls.</p><p> </p><p>"With this official recognition and inauguration Iguazu falls are now becoming part of global memory at the beginning of the third millennium," said Weber.</p><p> </p><p>The other six winners are the Amazon rainforest, Vietnam s Halong Bay, South Korea s Jeju Island, Indonesia s Komodo, the Philippines Puerto Princesa Underground River and South Africa s Table Mountain.</p><p> </p><p>The poll organized by Swiss foundation New7Wonders attracted great interest, mobilized celebrities including Argentinean football star Lionel Messi calling on fans to pick his home country s Iguazu Falls.</p><p> </p><p>The results came after a long consultation process lasting from December 2007 to July 2009, when world citizens were asked to put forward sites which they deemed were natural wonders.</p><p> </p><p>More than a million votes were cast to trim the list of more than 440 contenders in over 220 countries down to a shortlist of 77.<br /><br /> </p> |
Siachen disaster: Soldiers body recovered in Gayari Posted: <p> </p><p>The body of one of the soldiers buried in the Siachen glacier following a massive avalanche on April 7 has been recovered.</p><p> </p><p>On April 7, a total of 137 Pakistani soldiers and civilians were buried in Siachen s Gayari sector after a military camp was hit by a massive avalanche.</p><p> </p><p>Pakistani personnel and experts from Germany and Switzerland launched search and rescue operations following the incident.</p><p> </p><p>The rescue officials working round the clock met first success on the 50th day when they recovered the body of one missing soldier. The soldier was identified as Mohammad Hussain who belonged to village Shagar Thang near Skardu.</p><p> </p><p>The body was shifted to CMH Goma while excavation work to find more bodies continued at seven different sites.<br /> </p> |

Gilani convenes meeting to review Balochistan situation Posted: <p> </p><p>According to sources, Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, director generals ISI, IM, IB and FC and IG Balochistan will also attend the meeting.</p><p> </p><p>Governor, Chief Minister and Chief Secretary Balochistan have also been invited to attend the meeting. The sources said that significant decisions are expected regarding law and order situation in Balochistan during the meeting.<br /> </p> |
Shujaat backs Fehmidas decision in PM case Posted: <p> </p><p>Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said that his party backs National Assembly Soeaker Fehmida Mirza’s decision about disqualification of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani as MNA.</p><p> </p><p>He also said that the Prime Minister’s stance of not filing an appeal against conviction is also correct.</p><p> </p><p>Taliking to Dunya News at the Pakistan High Commission in London, Ch Shujaat said that there is no harm in meeting with Former president Pervez Musharraf. He said that politics was not discussed during Chaudhry Pervez Ilahi and Pervez Musharraf meeting. He said that his party will form an election alliance with Pakistan People’s Party for the next general election. Ch Shujaat said that there is no chance to form an alliance with PML-N.<br /> </p> |
Large scale corruption unearthed in CAA Posted: <p> </p><p>According to details, Rs 1 billion is being embezzled every month in respect of charges on non-scheduled flights. At least 4,000 non-scheduled flights land on airports every month while only 90 flights noted in the official documents.</p><p> </p><p>According to sources, the CAA receives $2,500 per flight in respect of airport charges. The inquiry in this respect was scheduled to be completed within 20 days but the report has not been submitted after passage of more than one month.<br /> </p> |
Polio virus found in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar Posted: <p> </p><p>According to World Health Organization (WHO) report, the presence of polio virus was confirmed in in sewerage water in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar. Polio virus can spread through air and affect children.</p><p> </p><p>Presence of polio virus was confirmed when test were carried out on sewerage water samples collected from the three cities. However, no polio virus was found in drinking water.</p><p> </p><p>According to report, no polio virus was found in Gudap Town area of Karachi which was earlier considered as most dangerous area regarding polio.</p><p> </p><p>It is feared that that presence of polio virus in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar is due to migration of children from FATA where the children were not vaccinated for the past three years. The WHO will examine sewerage water samples from three more cities next month.<br /><br /> </p> |
Chinese apologise to start Taunsa Hydel project Posted: <p><br /> It is of the view that if Federal Government guarantees the project, it is ready to commence work on the project.</p><p><br />Punjab government led by CM Shahbaz Sharif had signed an agreement with the Chinese company half and a year back. Now the company has not only apologized for making feasibility report of the project but also refused to work on the project, with the demand that unless and until, the Federal Government provides guarantee, company would not start work.</p><p><br />Punjab government has offered the guarantee of the Bank of Punjab but the Chinese company refused to accept the offer.<br />Company is of the view that province have no arrangement of purchasing electricity.</p> |
Karachi: transporters protest against Nawabshah tragedy Posted: <p><br />They also announced to block the National Highway and Super Highway on Monday.</p><p><br />Spokespersons of different transport organisations met in Karachi and condemned the incident of Nawashah where miscreants brutally targeted a passengers’ bus, killing 15 people.</p><p><br />Karachi Transport Ittehad president Irshad Bukhari told the meeting that about 50 drives have been killed while more than 150 were severely injured in different incidents last year.</p><p><br />He demanded that the government should not only lodge an FIR against the incident of Nawabshah but also give Rs 0.5 million to the heirs of each victim.</p><p><br />After the meeting, angry transporters took out a rally on Jinnah Road and blocked road for many hours, causing sufferings for passengers.</p><p><br />On the occasion, passengers unanimously decided to block Super Highway and National Highway on Monday.</p> |
Muzaffarabad: girl assaulted; 2 accused held Posted: <p> </p><p>Talking to the media, a labourer Jan Muhammad, resident of Nalatai in the suburb of Muzaffarabad said that the accused Numan assaulted her innocent daughter who went unconscious and was referred to hospital CMH where doctors have ascertained the mishap.</p><p><br />Police have registered case and arrested two accused Numan and Zafer.</p><p><br />The father of the innocent girl appealed that accused should be brought to justice without any discrimination.</p> |
Lahore:Two robbers killed during an encounter Posted: <p> </p><p>According to information, two robbers barged into a house 17-E at noon and started looting luggage and other precious items by taking inmates hostages on gunpoint.</p><p><br />Having heard hue and cry, the neighbouring people informed the police who reached there. When police reached the site of occurrence, robbers started indiscriminate firing on them. At this, police also retaliated in the same manner, killing two robbers on the spot.</p><p><br />Two cops also received bullet and shifted to hospital for first aid.</p><p><br />High officials have announced special award for policemen who took part in the operation against robbers.</p> |
Ghotki: sick children chained along with animals Posted: <p><br />These ill-fated children eat grass whenever they feel adversity of hunger.</p><p><br />According to sources, Abdussatar 20 and Babra 15 have been tying along with animals for 10 years.</p><p> </p><p>Abdussattar’s father Ahmad Ali Shaikh and Babra’s father Hakim Ali Sheikh said that they earn their living by running donkey cart, adding that they got their sick children treated for five years but now they find themselves unable to provide them this facility anymore.</p><p><br />Furthering their statement, they said that they had tied their children as a precautionary measure lest they should fall victim to traffic mishap or go missing.</p> |
Quetta: Man killed, 21 hurt as rocket hit a shop Posted: <p><br />According to sources, the two rockets intermittently dropped at a shop in Basti Panchayat and Kandhari Bazar. As a result, a man was killed while more than 21 were wounded.</p><p><br />Having information, rescue teams reached the site of occurrence and shifted the victims and affected to the nearby hospital.</p><p><br />Police also cordoned off the area but nobody could be arrested till the file of news.</p> |

All parties agree to address Balochistan woes Posted: <p><br />Top leaders of major political parties were in attendance at the National Conference on Balochistan, organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), as they called for a dialogue with all stakeholders in order to solve the province’s problems.</p><p><br />A 15-point resolution aimed at resolving Balochistan’s problems was passed unanimously at the conference.</p><p> </p><p>The resolution calls for an end to the ongoing military operation in the insurgency-hit province, and the withdrawal of military and paramilitary troops from Balochistan.</p><p> </p><p>In his opening remarks, SCBA President Yaseen Azad said that the main unrest in Balochistan is the problem of missing persons which could only be addressed through parliament by political forces.</p><p> </p><p>While speaking at Balochitan Convention in Islamabad, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif said that Bugti’s killers should be brought to justice. This is the starting point for giving relief and relaxation to the people of war-torn areas where bloodletting has become hallmark of the day, he said.</p><p><br />He said that that if the government, law and order agencies and members of civil society sincere to the country, they should commence this strategy. Unless and until, the killers of Nawab Akbar Bugti are brought to justice without any bias, the restoration of peace is impossible to be restored in the province.</p><p><br />While criticizing poor policies of the government, he said that killers of Bugti are being given guard of honour. Nobody dares to put them on trial, said that PML-N chief.</p><p><br />He said that nobody should be held responsible for disintegration deterioration in the country as we intentionally departed Masharqi Pakistan as Bangladesh.</p><p><br />He said that the whole of the nation has become directionless; it doesn’t know about its destination.</p><p><br />He said that some people have become rebel due to poor policies of the government which has nothing to do with the issues the pitiable nation has been facing for long time.</p><p><br />Speaking the convention, the PTI chief Imran Khan said that Balochistan is an issue of life and death for the motherland. We have not time to waste just for political tactics, he said.</p><p><br />He said that there is lot of difference between the Army and the police.</p><p> </p><p>On the other hand, PML-Q Secretary-General Mushahid Hussain Syed felt that the ‘Balochistan problem’ was spreading to other parts of the country and stressed: “We have to tackle it with a serious sense of responsibility. No one is taking responsibility for deteriorated law and order situation in the province.”</p><p><br />Asma Jahangir, former president of Supreme Court Bar Association, remarked that the solution of Balochistan issue was vested with the political parties and they should take immediate initiatives in that regard.</p><p><br />Qazi Hussain Ahmed, former Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami, was of the opinion that a society could not survive without justice and enforcement of Consttution could ensure all fundamental rights and provincial autonomy.</p><p><br />He said the rights of Baloch people over natural resources should be fully acknowledged.</p><p><br />President National Party Dr Abdul Malik underlined the imperative need for granting basic rights to the people of Balochistan. “Balochistan is an integral part of Pakistan and we have to find out solution by dialogue with all the stakeholders.</p><p><br />Deputy Chairman Pakhtoonkhawa Milli Awami Party Abdur Rahim Mandokhel said all problems have been created by the dictatorial regimes and now it is the duty of political leadership to address and resolve them.</p><p><br />President Hazara National Jirga Abdul Qayyum Chengezi said solution of problems was by holding free, fair and impartial elections.</p><p><br />President JUI-F Balochistan Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani was of the view that problems of Balochistan need a united national solution in accordance to the teachings of Islam.<br /> </p> |
