NATO supply restoration may take weeks or months: US Posted: <p>&nbsp;</p><p>Pakistan&nbsp;s supply routes have been closed since the Nov. 26 cross-border NATO air attack that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers and plunged already tumultuous ties between the two uneasy allies to their lowest point in years.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>A US defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that talks in Islamabad between Pakistani and US officials on supply routes, were continuing this week, but &quot;no decisions are imminent.&quot;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&quot;There&nbsp;s value in continuing to have those discussions, but there&nbsp;s no sense those talks are going to turn into decisions&quot; shortly, the official said.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>A deal would require agreement on Pakistan&nbsp;s proposal to impose tariffs on NATO supplies, including how tariffs would be formulated, where that money would go, and how the West would ensure those funds were being used appropriately.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&quot;Certainly the domestic situation in Pakistan has a role to play&quot; in the negotiations, the U.S. official said.<br /><br />&nbsp;</p>

Gujranwala: Former prayer leader tortured Posted: <p>&nbsp;</p><p>According to details, some unidentified persons riding on a car kidnapped former prayer leader Hafiz Zulfikar in Gujranwala. The accused took Zulfikar to an undisclosed place and severely tortured him.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The accused put nails in feet and shins of Zulfikar and threw him to a deserted place when his condition deteriorated. Hafiz Zulfikar said that the accused tortured him due the difference of opinion.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Another torture incident occurred in village Tango near Jhang where some influential landlords threw acid on their servant Asif. The victim Asif&rsquo;s received burn injuries during the acid attack and he was shifted to hospital in critical condition.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Police have registered a case but no arrest was made as the accused are influential people of the area.<br />&nbsp;</p>

Islamabad: Gas blast injures five Posted: <p>&nbsp;</p><p>According to details, repair work on gas pipeline was under way at a flat situated near Sabzi Mandi in Islamabad where gas accumulated in the kitchen due to leakage from a joint.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>A huge blast occurred when the residents tried to light the stove for cooking which caused injuries to five people including two minors. The injured were shifted to Holy Family Hospital for treatment.<br />&nbsp;</p>

Gujranwala: Three injured in PPP, PML-N workers clash Posted: <p>&nbsp;</p><p>According to details, a rally of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Youth Wing was on its way to Khayali By-pass to attend a public meeting. The workers chanted slogans when the rally reached in front of a Pakistan People&rsquo;s Party (PPP) office situated on the Nowshera Road which infuriated gunmen of PPP activist Lala Asad Ullah Papa and they opened aerial firing.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>A clash broke out between PPP and PML-N workers after the firing in which three activists of PML-N Youth wing were injured. Police reached the spot after the incident and arrested two gunmen of Lala Asad Ullah Papa.<br />&nbsp;</p>

Aisam, Roger in Estoril Open final Posted: <p>&nbsp;</p><p>In the semifinal match the pair of Aisam-ul-Haq and Jean-Julien Rojer defeated French pair of R Gasque and E Roger-Vasselin in the straight set. The score was 6-3, 6-1.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The second semifinal will be played today and the winners will face Aisam and Roger in the final.<br />&nbsp;</p>

Ambreen of Wapda scored a hat-trick.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>In the third match of the day, Railways defeated Punjab Colours by 6-2. Maira Sabir of Railways scored three goals. Olympics: Britain's biggest warship sails into London Posted: <p>&nbsp;</p><p>HMS Ocean, Britain&nbsp;s largest warship, sailed up the River Thames into London on Friday to take part in a nine-day training exercise testing responses to any attack on the forthcoming Olympic Games.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The amphibious assault ship squeezed narrowly through the river&nbsp;s flood barrier on its way to moor at Greenwich, completing the military presence for Exercise Olympic Guardian, which started on May 2.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Four Royal Navy and four army Lynx helicopters will operate from the 21,500-tonne ship, the defence ministry said.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>HMS Ocean can house more than 1,100 people plus torpedoes, guns and radar, while small craft operated by marines are also present on the river.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Typhoon fighter jets and surface-to-air missiles are already stationed around the capital, and Navy flagship HMS Bulwark is moored off the south coast for the exercise ahead of the Games, which run from from July 27 to August 12.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>HMS Ocean was trending nationally on Twitter as Londoners reacted to the unusual traffic on the river.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Last year the warship spent four months operating off the Libyan coast.<br />&nbsp;</p>

Govt to give identity to people in South Punjab: PM Posted: <p>&nbsp;</p><p>Speaking to a delegation of parliamentarians hailing from Southern Punjab who called on him at the Prime Minister&rsquo;s House, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said that the Pakistan People&rsquo;s Party will give identity to the masses in South Punjab.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>He said the government introduced FCR reforms in FATA and also gave new identity to Khyber Paktunkhwa and Gilgit Batistan.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>He said that the PPP was in favour of South Punjab province for which it had endeavoured to create consensus and the adoption of the resolution in the National Assembly was the manifestation to that effect. <br />&nbsp;</p>

LPG goes cheaper by Rs 5 per kg Posted: <p>&nbsp;</p><p>The OGDC has fixed new prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas at Rs 65,000 per ton after which the LPG price was lowered by Rs 5 per kg.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The new per kilogram prices of LPG in Punjab would be Rs 100, Sindh and Azad Kashmir Rs 105, Rawalpindi Rs 110, and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the commodity would be sold for Rs 125 per kilogram.<br />&nbsp;</p>

YDA to stage sit-in from next week Posted: <p>&nbsp;</p><p>Addressing a press conference at the Services Hospital Lahore, leader of the Young Doctors Association (YDA), Dr Nasir Abbas, said that two weeks ago the Punjab chief minister had announced to form a committee within three days to review service structure for the doctors and present a repot in a month nut so far the said committee has not been formed.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>He said that the Young Doctors Association will stage a sit in protest on May 9 out side the Services Hospital and threaten to go on strike if the committee was not formed.<br />&nbsp;</p>
