Raging wildfires prompt evacuations in Colorado

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>Emergency crews battled wildfires in northern Colorado that started early Saturday morning and scorched at least 200 acres of forested area, 10 miles west of Fort Collins. </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Officials ordered at least 36 homeowners to evacuate the area.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Crews faced rough terrain and smoke-filled air as they fought their way into the thickly wooded area to fight the raging blaze.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Local media captured images of airplanes and helicopters dropping chemicals around the affected region to contain the fire.<br />&nbsp;</p>


DG Khan: Tribal men attack police station, got free rapists

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>Dozens of tribal men attacked on the police station Fort Manro and got released the three accused involved in the rape case.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>According to details,&nbsp; SP Fort Manro had arrested the three officials of secutiry forces on the charges that they raped five girls which came on Fort Manro from Lahore.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The dozen of tribal men assaulted the police station and took away all three accused of the case with them. Police have registered the case against the attackers.<br />&nbsp;</p>


Karachi: Hamza, Saad advance in Ranking Tennis

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>In the second round of men&rsquo;s qualifying of the 4th Ranking Tennis, Malik Hamza beat Faheem Ramzan 6-1, 7-6 while Saad Anwar defeated Sufiyan Shahwani 6-4, 6-2.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>In the Under-15 category, Roman Shoaib, Hamza and Farzan Azhar also won their second round matches.<br />&nbsp;</p>


Body of another martyr soldier found at Gayari sector

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>The body of another martyred army soldier has been pulled out of the snow from Gayari sector. In total 10 bodies have been recovered so far from the avalanche site.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The body of the martyred soldier has been shifted to Goma Hospital for identification. According to ISPR sources, the search operation at Gayari sector continues despite harsh weather. Two hundred feet deep drilling has been completed at the site where harsh weather conditions are hampering use of heavy machinery.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>On April 7, 139 soldiers and civilians were buried under an avalanche in Gayari sector of Siachen. The sources said that the rescue operation will be completed before the start of winter season.<br /><br />&nbsp;</p>


Dadyal: 6 die as van falls into ravine

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>According to details, the van was going from Rawalpindi to Kotli. The van fell into a ditch while taking a sharp turn in Seerhi area near Dadyal, killing six people at the spot and injuring several others.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The injured passengers were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Dadyal by the residents of the area where condition of three is stated to be critical. <br />Earlier, 13 people were killed on Friday when a van fell into River Neelam.<br />&nbsp;</p>


Relief proposed in Punjab Finance Bill 2012

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>The Punjab Finance Bill 2012, which was tabled before the Punjab Assembly on Saturday, proposed providing relief to taxpayers, especially women, in the payment stamp duty apart from extending Capital Value Tax (CVT) exemption on power-of-attorney agreements between blood relatives.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>It also envisages collecting one-time token tax on 1,000cc vehicles to save owners of motor vehicles from the hassle of paying the token tax every year.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The bill envisages to provide relief to taxpayers, especially women in cases of partition as a result of inheritance of property, and the existing 2 percent ad valorem stamp duty is proposed to be replaced by a fixed token fee of Rs 500.<br />&nbsp;</p>


Prices of 24 daily use commodities increase after budget

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>According to Statistical Department, the increase in average inflation reached 12.06 per cent in the first week of June.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>In the first week of the month the prices of tomato witnessed an increase of 2.50 percent, sugar and bread 2 percent, onion and edible oil one percent.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The prices of cigarette increased by 5.4 percent, LPG 3.7 percent and cloth 2 percent. Meanwhile, increase in prices of milk, yogurt, pototo, meat and wheat was also recorded.<br />&nbsp;</p>


CNG stations in Sindh to remain shut for 22 hours

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>According to the Sui Southern Gas Company&rsquo;s gas load management programme, the CNG stations throughout Sindh, including Karachi, will remain shut for 22 hours from 9:00am on Sunday to 7:00 am on Monday.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The schedule of SNG stations closure has been taken due to countrywide strike by All Pakistan CNG Association. Perviously, the CNG stations used to remain closed from 9:00am on Saturday to 9:00am on Sunday.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The people have criticized the decision of closure of filling stations and said that the CNG stations remained closed for two day during protest and the shut down on Sunday will increase the difficulties of the masses.<br />&nbsp;</p>


Two more victims of hospital fire expire

Insomniacs at greater risk of developing hypertension

<p><br />Researchers at the Henry Ford Center for Sleep Disorders, Detroit, found that the prevalence of hypertension was greater in insomniacs compared to normal sleepers.</p><p><br />&ldquo;The cause of hypertension in insomniacs is due to the number of times the individual wakes during the night as well as their sleep latency &ndash; the length of time it takes to accomplish the transition from full wakefulness to sleep,&rdquo; Christopher Drake, lead author of this study, said.</p><p><br />&ldquo;We found that the longer it took the subjects to fall asleep and more times they woke during the night, the more severe their hypertension,&rdquo; he said.</p><p><br />Insomnia is the inability to fall asleep or remain asleep and is the most common sleep complaint among Americans.</p><p><br />According to the National Center for Sleep Disorders Research at the National Institutes of Health, about 30 to 40 percent of adults say they have some symptoms of insomnia within a given year, and about 10 to 15 percent of adults say they have chronic insomnia.</p><p><br />The Henry Ford study compared 5314 subjects with insomnia to those with normal sleep habits using an internet-based questionnaire.</p><p><br />The questionnaire looked for patterns of insomnia symptoms, presence and severity of hypertension and sleep and health habits. The normal sleepers were then compared to insomniacs for prevalence of hypertension.</p><p><br />The study will be presented on Tuesday at the Sleep 2012 Conference in Boston.</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

Faisalabad: drug addict cut his wife's hair

<p><br />The victim Samina Bibi, resident of Kokianwali in the suburb of Razabad police station, said that her husband is addicted to drug and used to urge her on immoral activities as he has no amount for satisfaction of his lust.</p><p><br />She said that he pressurized her time and again for this purpose and ultimately not only mercilessly tortured her but also cut her hair unscrupulously.</p><p><br />Affected woman rushed to police station for legal action against the accused but in vain. Medical report has also proved that torture has been inflicted on woman.</p><p><br />According to police, it is a domestic issue due to which no legal action may be taken as woman is igniting the issue for her vested interests.</p>


Finance Ministry stops funds for HEC: Spokesman

<p><br />According to spokesman of Higher Education Commission Nasir Shah, the Finance Ministry has not released funds allocated for last quarter since March 2112.</p><p><br />Due to this, teachers of more than 70 universities across the country can&rsquo;t be given salaries. Students of PhD would also be affected due to this mismanagement, he said.</p><p><br />Apart from this, developmental projects approved by the HEC would also fall victim to deadlock, he concluded.</p>
