The True Spirit Of Eid
Aug 19th 2012, 16:27

First of all I would like to wish everyone a very happy Eid. What does Eid mean to you? Of course we all know Eid is about festivities, getting new clothes, mehndi , shoes and most of all a lot of Eidi! Since Eid is a religious festival, I think it should be celebrated in its true spirit and the spirit of Ramzan should not end with the month, the whole idea is that for one month we fast and do good deeds so that we know what is the right path and hopefully find it in our hearts to follow the same for the rest of the year too.

Most of us make New Year resolutions, whether we stick by them or not is another story but we do believe that a New Year should bring with it new hopes and new promises. So why not make resolutions on Eid as well keeping in view the true spirit of our religion? I am no maulana, nowhere near that, just an average Muslim but I do believe that if I deserve an Eid than so do those people who are less fortunate. How can I sit by and watch such people crave for new clothes or good food to eat when I have three suits stitched for Eid and ten dishes to choose from.

There are so many people around us who by our minimal effort can feel very special; don't they deserve to be happy? If you have servants, why not spend a part of your Eidi on them, you will be rewarded with a smile, duas and so much more from Allah. If you have nothing else to give, give them a smile or a few kind words ought to serve the purpose. When I say all this I don't mean that so many of you don't do that already. Is there a friend or a relative with whom you had a fight and have been waiting for him or her to make the first move? Why not call them and wish them today, build bridges and forgive them, you will surely feel better than you do at the moment.

I made a resolution on this Eid and I will try my very best to act on it till next Eid and hopefully by then it will become a habit. My resolution is that I will try my utmost to be tolerant of others and will give others the same amount of respect that I expect from them, whether it is my housemaid, my colleague or my siblings. I hope I do not sound too preachy, the purpose of writing this post was to motivate my readers to make a resolution on this Eid and if you decide to do so please share it with us. Did you do anything to make someone's Eid special? I am sure so many of you did incredible things; please share with us your stories so we can all be motivated. All the best to everyone.
