Let's Talk About LSA.

This is going to be a very frank discussion between the readers, me and anyone who wants to pitch in. I am a layman just like most of you people, I don't attend fashion shows and do not hang out with the rich and famous. I am just very happy to see my favorite star perform on the television and have tons of respect for all the celebrities.

So, when I watched the Lux Style Awards I was a little taken aback, somewhat shocked and also slightly disappointed. Now please do not tell me that I should not have watched it if that was the case because they were aired so that viewers could watch them, whether we agree with everything we saw or not, is another thing. Akhir ko award shows etc dekhna sirf us ka hi tu haq nahi hota who agrees with all that they have to offer. Hum jaise aam admi bhi tu dekh suktay hei and then we should have the right to share how we felt about them. So I hope people will lower down their guards and give me some benefit of the doubt.

Now why was I shocked? Hmmm I really did not know ke Pakistan itna "taraqi" kur gaya hai! We are so modern, so westernized (I won't say enlightened for obvious reasons) mujhe tu pata hii nahi tha. I am glad that all our fashion models and actresses are at par with the west when it comes to their dressing but it also makes me extremely sad to know that the PAKISTAN Fashion industry does not represent the Pakistanis at all. It only represents the chosen few people who no doubt are working extremely hard to prove themselves in their country and abroad but all those beautiful women would have looked even more stunning if they wore clothes that were more in sync with our culture, more in sync with what majority of the women in Pakistan wear. Savera Nadeem, Sania Saeed, Bushra Ansari, Nida Yasir and few others stood out because they were beautifully dressed and looked stunning. It is sad that we are exactly where the West is only as far as giving up our values is concerned but other than that majority of our people cannot remotely relate to these people who play roles on screen which we can always relate to. These women play struggling women who are used and abused at the hands of their men but the reality is completely different, sure they are actors and they act things that they are not in real life but why don't we see such women characters on screen? Isn't this hypocrisy? Hami tu dramay dekh ke bhi nahi pata chalta ke is mulk mein itne "westernized" log hai. Why don't the media promote this "class"? Maybe because they are themselves well aware of the fact that majority of the people will not watch these shows.

Anyway enough of being emotional…there are more interesting things to talk about. The awards ceremony in general was excellent and I really liked the stage etc. Ahmed Butt completely stole the show as the host, Meera was actually good too but the rest of the hosts were just plain boring. The women could barely carry themselves in the dresses they were wearing and I literally felt for them. I am sure they couldn't wait to get out of those uncomfortable dresses!

Did anyone notice how Maira Khan reacted when Sania Saeed was nominated for one of the categories but Sanam Baloch got the award, the cameras were right on her and she said oh S":*#…seriously people really should be more composed in these functions. Sania Saeed to apne awards na jeetna ka utna afsos anhi huva jitna Maira ko!

Bushra Ansari was dead serious during the whole show and even raised her eyebrows in a very satirical manner on one or two occasions. Bhai ap ko aise show pe aana acha nahi lugta tu ap na aye. And I also noticed that the audience in general was so "kanjoos" when it came to giving applause. One should come to these award ceremonies with a big heart or not come at all!

So, did you watch the Lux Style Awards? Share your thoughts.
